Eulogy vs Obituary

Whether you're in need of a eulogy service or an obituary service, I can help you. One is often mistaken for the other, but the main differences are length and delivery. While a eulogy is longer and presented as a speech, an obituary is shorter and displayed for others to read. Here is a quick overview.

Eulogy

  • A written account of the person's life story

  • Approximately 1,000 words in length

  • Includes detailed information with memorable anecdotes/stories

  • Read aloud by a family member or close friend at the funeral service

Obituary

  • A written account of the person's life story

  • Approximately 200-300 words in length

  • Includes general information rather than specific details or stories

  • Printed in a newspaper or online as a public notice for others to read
